Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze Review 2024: Maximum Cooling at a Premium Price

Tempur-Pedic is easily one of the recognizable mattress brands: It popularized using memory foam as a comfort material in mattresses and it’s been around for a long time. The brand has traditionally been brick-and-mortar focused but now has a similar online buying experience to online-only brands. 

I’ve tested nine different Tempur-Pedic mattresses, including the affordable Tempur Cloud, the Tempur Pro Adapt, two versions of the Tempur Adapt, and two different versions of the Pro Breeze and Luxe Breeze and one thing all of the beds have in common is the feel of dense memory foam that many sleepers love.

The Luxe Breeze is one of two mattresses in the Tempur “Breeze” line and it’s the most premium, high-end mattress that Tempur-Pedic sells online, not counting its mattress that comes with its own adjustable base. It has the maximum cooling factor and the most firmness options available from Tempur-Pedic and for anyone who likes the feel of memory foam, this bed could be for you.

First impressions of the Tempur Luxe Breeze mattress

Our team had tested older models of the Pro and Luxe Breeze, and I was pretty surprised when we received new, updated versions from the brand. At first glance, they didn’t seem at all different from the ones we tested previously — and aside from having enhanced cooling features and a few small (but useful) details, the beds didn’t change much.

It was immediately apparent that the cooling factor was very strong on this mattress, and it maintains the classic, dense memory foam feel that Tempur-Pedic is known for. The model of the Luxe Breeze we received from Tempur Pedic is the hybrid, and historically, when we test hybrid versions of memory foam mattresses, like the Nectar Premier Hybrid, the responsive nature of the coils makes the bed lose some of its classic memory foam qualities. Thankfully, that is not the case with the Luxe Breeze. 

The bed also arrived via “white-glove delivery,” so instead of being delivered roll-packed inside of a box like the majority of beds we test, it ships flat, and a local team will do the entire setup for you. This also avoids any potential off-gassing you have to deal with.

Is the Tempur Luxe Breeze mattress right for you?

For anyone seeking a memory foam mattress with enhanced cooling features — the Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze is a fantastic option. Memory foam, as a material, can often sleep a bit warmer than other materials. This is because you usually sink into memory foam and more material is touching your body and more heat is reflected. 

With a cooling mattress like this, you should be able to sleep comfortably cool in most settings. A bed like this isn’t a replacement for air conditioning in hot climates, but it can certainly help. I speak from experience — my current mattress is the Tempur-Pedic Pro Breeze, which has a slightly weaker cooling factor in comparison to the Luxe Breeze and it has helped me sleep at a comfortable temperature. 

Unfortunately, you’ll need a large budget to consider the Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze as it’s one of the most expensive beds I’ve ever tested. I think this is in large part due to the quality, this is a nice mattress — and also in part because of the Tempur-Pedic brand name. 

Tempur Luxe Breeze firmness and feel

The feel of the Tempur Pedic Luxe Breeze is that of a classic memory foam mattress. There is a variety in memory foam types these days, like the responsive style memory foam from the Amerisleep lineup of mattresses, to the light, airy memory foam found in the Layla and Layla Hybrid and beds that feature memory foam but don’t really feel like memory foam (further examples include Casper and Leesa). With the Luxe Breeze mattress, though, you will get the traditional type of memory foam feel. 

When you first lay down on it, the bed will feel firm at first (especially if your room is cold), and then you’ll slowly start to sink into the top layers of foam as it conforms to your body’s shape. It has a body-conforming quality that can relieve pressure on joints like your hips, shoulders and even your lower back.

The hallmark of a classic memory foam feel like this is its lack of responsiveness. When you press down on it and remove your hand, the foam takes a significant amount of time to snap back into its original shape. This can deter some sleepers from tossing and turning at night, which can lead to more restful sleep, but conversely, some sleepers sometimes report feeling “stuck” in a memory foam bed like the Luxe Breeze. It really comes down to personal preference with a distinct feel like this.

I’ve been sleeping on the Tempur-Pedic Pro Breeze mattress (which is nearly identical to the Luxe Breeze) for a little over six months, and I find that I will fall asleep in one position and wake up in the exact same spot most nights, which was not the case with previous beds I have slept on for significant periods of time like Purple. I feel like I am getting excellent rest on the Pro Breeze, and my Garmin watch stats have backed that up, with my average “sleep score” in the mid- to low 80s (out of 100) and consistently very low restlessness scores. 

Luxe Breeze firmness

The firmness of the Luxe Breeze will vary depending on which model you select at checkout — which is a significant difference between the Luxe Breeze and Pro Breeze. 

The Pro Breeze is only available in a medium and medium-hybrid model, while the Luxe Breeze is available in a soft, medium hybrid and a firm. 

The medium-hybrid model is the only to feature coils — but as I already mentioned, the coils won’t impact the feel of the mattress in comparison to the foam models. 

The medium-hybrid model we found to be a medium on our firmness scale, which means it should be generally accommodating for all sleeping positions, back, stomach, side and combination. 

This model will also probably be the best option for couples because it is the most accommodating. And if you and your sleeping partner both want a more specific firmness profile, this mattress has you covered. 

The soft model will be around a medium-soft, which will provide sleepers with more pressure relief for your hips and shoulders. Side sleepers tend to prefer beds with a soft profile like this. 

Conversely, back sleepers and some stomach sleepers will probably prefer the firm model of the Luxe Breeze, which is around a medium-firm on our scale and has less give.

Tempur Luxe Breeze construction

I would describe the construction of the Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze to be somewhat “basic,” which is not a bad thing, there just aren’t a lot of layers underneath the cover like some other beds we’ve tested. 

The support layer will depend on which model you select, it will either be dense, supportive foam or a layer of pocketed coils. Above the support layer will be the main comfort layers of the mattress — which Tempur-Pedic calls “Pure Cool” material. Tempur-Pedic likes to give its foam’s fancy names, but they are just its proprietary memory foam. 

The cover is also quite cool to the touch, and it is also removable. Sleeping on the Pro Breeze, I found the ability to remove the cover to be quite nice because throughout the winter, I actually found the bed to be too cold for comfort, so I just zipped it off and folded it up in the linen closet and put it back on when the weather got warmer. Other cooling beds I enjoy, like the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe, don’t have this feature. 

Tempur Luxe Breeze performance

Edge support

During testing, I didn’t notice any red flags in the edge support department. Even though the memory foam comfort layers compress and conform to your body’s shape, I didn’t observe any roll sensation on the Luxe Breeze mattress. The soft model might have worse edge support than the firm and medium hybrid models because of that additional foam compression.

Motion isolation

Motion isolation is one of the factors that Tempur-Pedic, as a brand, is known for. If you’re in your 30s, like me, you might remember these old commercials from Tempur-Pedic showing off this feature, and it lives up to the hype.

In fact, the primary reason I made the switch to Tempur-Pedic at home was because my partner is a light sleeper and struggled with waking up in the middle of the night on our previous mattress, and the Luxe Breeze is easily one of the best we’ve ever tested. For light sleepers, the Luxe Breeze and the entire Tempur-Pedic lineup are great options.

Temperature regulation

The Luxe Breeze mattress is a cool sleeping bed, and it is the primary selling point of the Breeze beds over the more affordable Adapt Collection of mattresses. 

The cover is quite cool to the touch, and you will notice it through a layer of sheets. According to Tempur-Pedic, the mattress will help you sleep up to 10 degrees cooler than a mattress without these cooling features and 5 degrees cooler than the Pro Breeze. It is hard to tell with these beds side by side that the Luxe Breeze will sleep five full degrees colder than the Pro Breeze, but I think it is noticeable.  

Overall, the cooling nature of the Luxe Breeze mattress is very appealing and gives sleepers an additional level of control by making the cover removable.

Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze pricing 

There is no getting around the fact that Tempur-Pedic is an expensive brand. Even its most affordable bed, the Tempur Cloud mattress is more expensive than a lot of beds that we test. The Breeze mattresses are the most expensive mattresses from Tempur-Pedic and the Luxe Breeze is roughly twice the price of Tempur Pro Adapt mattress.

Free shipping

You won’t be paying any extra upfront cost for shipping the Luxe Breeze mattress, but its delivery method is quite a bit different than most beds. It might still arrive in a box, but it won’t be rolled packed in plastic, and a local delivery team will do all the heavy lifting to set up the bed and will even take away your old mattress if you want them to. 

90-night trial 

All Tempur-Pedic mattresses come with a slightly shorter than standard 90-night trial period to determine if you actually like the mattress and want to keep it long-term. 

Keep in mind that it can take a month or longer for your body to adjust to a new mattress, no matter how well-suited it is to your sleeping preferences. It took about a month and a half for me to get used to sleeping on the Pro Breeze, and I knew in the first two months that I wouldn’t be replacing it, so I think 90 nights is enough, but other brands do offer longer trials. 

Return policy

At any point after the first 30 nights post-delivery you decide the mattress isn’t for you for any reason, you can return it and get a refund minus a return fee of at least $175, which is steeper than what we usually see with brands that don’t have free returns.

Warranty

All Tempur-Pedic mattresses, including the Pro Breeze, are backed by a standard 10-year warranty. If you buy a mattress online, a 10-year warranty is the minimum you should expect.

How does the Tempur Luxe Breeze compare to similar mattresses?

Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze vs. Loom & Leaf by Saatva

Loom & Leaf is a premium memory foam option available from the brand Saatva. It has a more responsive memory foam feel in comparison to the Luxe Breeze mattress, thanks to its quilted pillow top design, but you still get a nice sink-in quality. The Luxe Breeze has a much stronger cooling factor, though. The Loom & Leaf mattress does have a cooling strip in the center third of the mattress to improve temperature regulation, but it can’t really compete with the Luxe Breeze in this category. Loom & Leaf also comes in two firmness options compared to the three firmness options available on the Luxe Breeze. 

The Loom & Leaf mattress also is only available in an all-foam model while the Luxe Breeze mattress has a hybrid option to go along with the foam models. In terms of quality and feel the Luxe Breeze and the Loom & Leaf mattresses are similar, but the Luxe Breeze has more firmness options and is a cooler sleeping mattress.

Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze vs. Leesa Reserve Hybrid

The Leesa Reserve Hybrid is one of the newest mattresses available from Leesa and is a direct competitor to Tempur-Pedic. This mattress is somewhat unique because it ships in two separate boxes; one contains the base of the mattress, which is a thick layer of zoned support and perimeter-reinforced pocketed coils, and the other contains the comfort layers. The Leesa Reserve has the same type of memory foam feel as all the Tempur-Pedic mattresses. It has three different firmness options, and the cover is cool to the touch. 

The Luxe Breeze is the cooler sleeping mattress, based on our testing, but the Leesa Reserve is also much more affordable than both Breeze mattresses, especially after discount. I really like the Leesa Reserve and think it is an excellent Tempur-Pedic alternative. 

Final thoughts on the Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze mattress

If you’re a hot sleeper who wants a classic memory foam feel and also wants a mattress from a longstanding, reputable brand, the Luxe Breeze will be a near-perfect fit. The Luxe Breeze provides the strongest cooling factor and the most firmness options available from Tempur-Pedic, only matched by the Pro Adapt mattress. 

The biggest issue with the Luxe Breeze mattress is going to be the price. It is among the most expensive beds our team has ever tested, and unless you really want the additional cooling features of the Luxe Breeze, I think it makes more sense to go with either the Adapt or the Pro Adapt mattress instead. Both beds have the same type of feel, and both beds are from the Tempur-Pedic brand, but at much lower prices. The biggest thing the Breezes have that the Adapts don’t have is the exceptional cooling factor. 

Only you can decide if the extra cost is worth it to you, but I can say that the Breeze mattresses do sleep cool and it’s not just marketing.

Other mattresses from Tempur-Pedic

Tempur Cloud: This mattress is the most affordable bed in the Tempur-Pedic lineup. It has the same dense memory foam feel as the Luxe Breeze and comes in a medium and medium hybrid model. The biggest difference between the Cloud and the rest of the Tempur-Pedic mattress is that it’s shipped roll-packed in plastic and inside of a large bag as opposed to white glove delivery. It’s Tempur-Pedic’s answer to other bed-in-a-box brands. The Tempur Cloud also doesn’t have any noticeable cooling factor and actually sleeps somewhat warm, in my opinion.

Tempur Pro Adapt: This mattress is probably the most “versatile” mattress in the Tempur-Pedic lineup because it offers the same number of firmness options as the Luxe Breeze. It has a cooling cover (not as cold as the Luxe Breeze, but it is noticeable), and it is about half the price of the Luxe Breeze. For most people interested in Tempur-Pedic, I recommend this mattress and the even more affordable Adapt mattress the most because I think they are both great values.
