The Ahsoka Disney+ TV show features an all-star cast bringing some classic Star Wars characters to live-action for the first time. The latest Star Wars TV series set during The Mandalorian era, Ahsoka tells the ongoing story of Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan several years after the fall of the Empire. According to Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni, Ahsoka is essentially Star Wars Rebels season 5 – which explains why it features quite a few of the characters from that animated series, translated into live-action at last.

The Mandalorian season 2 introduced Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, and set her on a quest to locate the missing Grand Admiral Thrawn – the greatest Imperial strategist, missing since Star Wars Rebels‘ series finale. The New Republic believe the Empire is defeated, but The Mandalorian season 3 has already confirmed the Imperial Remnants are secretly working together. With the stakes higher than ever before for Ahsoka, she will need all her friends at hand to turn the tables.

Rosario Dawson Is Ahsoka Tano

Date of Birth: May 9, 1979

Despite being voiced by Ashley Eckstein in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Tales of the Jedi, the character of Ahsoka Tano is played by Rosario Dawson in live-action. Born in New York City, New York, Dawson’s big break arrived with her role in 2005’s Rent. She has since become best known for playing Claire Temple in the Marvel Netflix TV shows, but has now made the jump to Star Wars. She’s clearly having the time of her life, and has been complimented on her commitment to fight choreography.

Character: Introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where she was voiced by Ashley Eckstein, Ahsoka Tano survived Order 66 due to the training she’d received from her master, Anakin Skywalker, and went on to become a rebel agent during the Dark Times of the Empire’s reign. She disappeared for years, mysteriously absent during the Galactic Civil War, only to reappear years later seeking out Grand Admiral Thrawn. It’s unclear whether Ahsoka is still a Jedi; she left the Order shortly before the end of the Clone Wars, but also took her friend Sabine Wren on as a Padawan.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo Is Sabine Wren

Date of Birth: August 25, 1994

Sabine Wren is played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo in Ahsoka, replacing the voice actress Tiya Sircar from Rebels. Bordizzo, born in Sydney, Australia, is primarily known for her role in Netflix’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and The Greatest Showman, alongside playing the main role of Helena in The Society. Bordizzo revealed that she watched all of Rebels in preparation for the role, dedicated to bringing Sabine to life as best she could.

Character: Like the titular former Jedi, Sabine is a character who first appeared in Star Wars animation, as she was created for Star Wars Rebels. Sabine is an artistic Mandalorian, once abandoned by her family after she chose not to follow the Empire upon witnessing the Imperials’ cruelty. She then joined the Ghost crew, a ragtag group of heroes who became intrinsic to the formation of the Rebel Alliance. Like Ahsoka, Rebels ended with Sabine vowing to find Ezra and Thrawn after the two disappeared in the series finale.

Eman Esfandi Is Ezra Bridger

Date of Birth: September 27, 1994

Ezra was initially voiced by Taylor Gray for Rebels, with the recasting of Eman Esfandi for Ahsoka following suit for the other animated characters. Born in Laredo, Texas, Esfandi is a relatively unknown actor, best known for his credits in Robert Rodriguez’s Red 11, as well as a minor role in King Richard. He also appeared in the drama series The Inspection as the character of Ismail. Ahsoka marks Esfandi’s first appearance in Star Wars, bringing beloved thief-turned-Jedi Ezra Bridger to life.

Character: The catalyst for Ahsoka’s plot is Ezra Bridger, another character first introduced in Rebels. Ezra was originally something of a con artist, an orphan living on the planet Lothal. He crossed paths with the Ghost crew, and gained their interest due to his Force sensitivity. Ezra became the main hero in Star Wars Rebels, growing in the Force and becoming a true Jedi. He ultimately sacrificed himself to defeat Grand Admiral Thrawn, using his connective to space whales known as purrgil to drag Thrawn’s flagship into hyperspace.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Is Hera Syndulla

Date of Birth: November 28, 1984

Mary Elizabeth Winstead was confirmed to play Hera in Ahsoka at Star Wars Celebration 2023, replacing illustrious voice actor Vanessa Marshall from Rebels. Winstead, born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, is known for her wide-reaching Hollywood career, from roles in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and 10 Cloverfield Lane to Birds of Prey and Gemini Man. Star Wars is a family affair for Winstead, because she’s married to Ewan McGregor – the actor who played Obi-Wan Kenobi since the prequel trilogy.

Character: Rounding out the returning characters of Rebels is Hera. Hera is a Twi’lek pilot and the co-leader of the Ghost crew, and she served as a general for the Rebel Alliance in the Galactic Civil War. Hera acted as the mother figure for Ezra during Rebels, which explains her return in Ahsoka, a show centered on finding him. Hera remains a general in the New Republic after the fall of the Empire.

Ray Stevenson Is Baylan Skoll

Date of Birth: May 25, 1964

Baylan Skoll is played by the late Ray Stevenson, who previously worked for Star Wars as the voice of Mandalorian leader Gar Saxon in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Born in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, Stevenson was also known for playing Blackbeard in Black Sails, Volstagg in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Governor Buxton in the acclaimed Indian film RRR, and the Punisher in Punisher: Warzone. He sadly died in May 2021, and the cast and crew are clearly heartbroken at his loss.

Character: One of the more mysterious characters in Ahsoka is Baylan, a mysterious Order 66 survivor who has become a mercenary and is now working for the Empire. Baylan and his apprentice, Shin Hati, are working for Morgan Elsbeth, a Nightsister who’s a close ally of Grand Admiral Thrawn. While his short-term goal is to help Morgan find Thrawn, he has a long-term goal related to power, and the nature of it remains a mystery.

Ivanna Sahkno Is Shin Hati

Date of Birth: November 14, 1997

The apparentice of Baylan Skoll, Shin Hati is played by Star Wars newcomer Ivanna Sahkno. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Sahkno has already made a name for herself even in her relatively new acting career. From Pacific Rim: Uprising to The Spy Who Dumped Me, Sahkno’s career to date has been defined and refined by her thrilling ability to portray action-heavy roles. In Ahsoka, Sahkno’s role is no different, as Shin is an ambitious and powerful warrior.

Character: As Baylan’s apprentice, Shin also works for Morgan Elsbeth, though she’s actively in training – but not as a Jedi, nor as a Sith. Shin has ambitious desires like her master, but what she wants doesn’t seem to align perfectly with what Baylan wants. She eagerly awaits becoming a part of Grand Admiral Thrawn’s plan for the galaxy, while Baylan seeks something more, something higher. Despite this small rift between the two of them, Shin remains steadfast in her loyalty to her master.

David Tennant Is Huyang

Date of Birth: April 18, 1971

Huyang was voiced by David Tennant in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the illustrious actor has returned to voice the droid for Ahsoka. Tennant is perhaps best known for his role as the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctor in Doctor Who. Other notable roles include Kilgrave in Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Crowley in Amazon Prime’s Good Omens.

Character: Huyang is a 25,000-year-old droid who has worked with the Jedi since his creation, helping younglings learn to make their first lightsabers. He now travels with Ahsoka Tano throughout the galaxy, using his knowledge of lightsabers to piece together the fractured parts of the Jedi Order many years after Order 66. Despite his rather blunt way of speaking, he also acts as wisdom and counsel for Ahsoka and her allies.

Hayden Christensen Is Anakin Skywalker

Date of Birth: April 19, 1981

Born in Vancouver, Canada, Hayden Christensen, the actor who played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, reprises his role in Ahsoka. Despite Matt Lanter voicing the version of Anakin seen in The Clone Wars, Christensen’s return as the character sees him and Ahsoka interacting in live-action for the first time. In both Clone Wars flashbacks and as a Force ghost, Christensen’s return as Anakin is undoubtedly one of the series’ most exciting aspects.

Character: The Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker, is arguably the central character of the entire Skywalker saga, returning balance to the Force after betraying Emperor Palpatine as Darth Vader. Skywalker was Ahsoka’s Jedi Master during the Clone Wars, in which the two formed a nigh-unbreakable bond. Anakin confronted Ahsoka as Darth Vader in Rebels, with Ahsoka re-emerging in the galaxy after Anakin’s death.

Genevieve O’Reilly Is Mon Mothma

Date of Birth: January 6, 1977

Genevieve O’Reilly, born in Dublin, Ireland, returns to Ahsoka to reprise her role as Mon Mothma. Mothma is perhaps O’Reilly’s best-known role, after appearing as the character in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith‘s deleted scenes, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Andor. Similarly, O’Reilly voiced the character of Mon Mothma in Rebels, helping to bridge the gap between animation and live-action.

Character: Mon Mothma was a senator during the time of the Republic and the Empire who eventually was one of the spearheads of forming the Rebel Alliance. Due to this role, Mon Mothma had close connections with the Ghost crew, with the crew responsible for saving her as she abandoned the Empire and officially formed the Rebel Alliance. This, alongside her importance to the New Republic as Chancellor, explains her return in Ahsoka, which acts as a Rebels sequel.

Diana Lee Inosanto Is Lady Morgan Elsbeth

Date of Birth: May 29, 1966

Born in Los Angeles, California, Diana Lee Inosanto reprises her role as Morgan Elsbeth in Ahsoka from The Mandalorian. Inosanto is largely known as a proficient martial artist, the goddaughter of Bruce Lee. She wrote and directed the 2008 film The Sensei, before being cast as Elsbeth in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

Character: Lady Morgan Elsbeth is another returning Star Wars character. Elsbeth first appeared in The Mandalorian season 2, episode 5 as the Imperial Magistrate on the planet Corvus. Ahsoka was shown to directly oppose Elsbeth in The Mandalorian, with the Jedi besting her in a duel before demanding the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Elsbeth was positioned as one of Thrawn’s lackeys, explaining her return in Ahsoka.

Lars Mikkelsen Is Grand Admiral Thrawn

Date of Birth: May 6, 1964

Grand Admiral Thrawn is played by Lars Mikkelsen, who previously voiced the character in Star Wars Rebels. Born near Copenhagen, Denmark, the Danish actor is celebrated for playing seminal roles in The Killing, Sherlock, and House of Cards, among many other roles. Thrawn plays a major role in Ahsoka as the person everyone is looking for.

Chracter: The central antagonist of Ahsoka is Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn is a character initially introduced to Star Wars in the now-Legends Thrawn trilogy of books by Timothy Zahn as the heir to Empire who rebuilt the fascist organization after Return of the Jedi. After the Thrawn books were announced as Legends, the character was brought into Rebels as a high-ranking Imperial who opposed the Ghost crew. Thrawn was eventually lost to space with Ezra, and when he returns, he will tip the balance of power in favor of the Empire, ending the galaxy’s fragile peace.

Wes Chatham Is Captain Enoch

Date of Birth: October 11, 1978

Bringing yet another character from Star Wars Legends to live-action is Wes Chatham as Captain Enoch. Born in Georgia, Chatham is no stranger to a sci-fi kind of world. As a part of The Expanse, in addition to films such as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2 and Tenet, Chatham certainly has some large-scale production experience. Now, his role as Enoch in Star Wars will expand that even more.

Character: Captain Enoch is the right-hand of Grand Admiral Thrawn, as established in Legends. Enoch is rather mysterious, never appearing without his golden-cast stormtrooper mask as he serves Thrawn faithfully. Upon Thrawn’s return to the main Star Wars galaxy, Enoch will no doubt continue to serve Thrawn and lead his men into the Empire’s next chapter.

Ahsoka Supporting Cast & Characters

While Ahsoka certainly has many stars, there are also plenty of incredible actors who have lent their talents to the Star Wars TV show.
